Our bodies change after we stop drinking alcohol.
Alcohol is a controversial subject for a lot of people. It is readily available as a social lubricator, and the first place we look after a rough day at the office. We celebrate with alcohol, commiserate with it, and even drink it when we want to relax.
I would never tell someone what to do with their lives, but I will say that the negative effects of alcohol are well documented, and giving it up has lots of great side effects for your health. So if you are at the point where you want to cut back or eliminate alcohol from your life, here is what you can expect:
Improved health. Obviously, quitting liquor will improve your health, but more specifically you can expect your skin to clear up, less inflammation overall, a faster metabolism, better hydration, better digestion, and more balanced hormonal levels.
Improved mental heath. Alcohol is a depressant, so understandably, quitting alcohol can lead to less stress, depression, and anxiety. Your mind will also become more clear, and your short-term memory can improve.
More money. Quitting alcohol can have healthy effects on our wallets too. Even if you only have six drinks per week, you could be saving up to $150 a month, or more. That money can be put towards more healthy things, like fitness classes, or college tuition.
No hangovers. Once you turn thirty, hangovers change from small inconveniences, to what can seem like life-threatening illnesses. Anyone under 30 probably doesn’t believe me, anyone over thirty knows that the hangovers alone are reason enough to stop drinking.
Better sleep. You may think that you sleep like the dead when you are drunk, but it is often a restless sleep. Quitting the sauce will not only allow for better sleep patterns, but you will wake up with more energy, and a full recollection of the night before.
Like I said, I would never tell someone how to live their life, but eliminating alcohol from your diet is a surefire, guaranteed way to lead a healthier life.
